
The module describes activities required of quantity surveyors in undertaking cost modelling and planning including:
* Understanding the cost information requirements of construction projects
* Development of appropriate cost modelling databases for construction projects
* Utilisation of cost information databases for the financial management of projects

The module comprises four main parts, each one contributing to an understanding of the aspects of the production process of price determination documents for Built Environment projects. The breakdown of this module is as follows:
Part 1 – Development of production plans for the preparation of documents.
Part 2 – Management of the preparation and production process.
Part 3 – Accuracy, completeness and other checks.
Part 4 – Finalisation and distribution of documentation.

Part 1 – Understand the content and objectives of professional legislation for the built environment.
Part 2 – Understand the principles of practice structuring.
Part 3 – Prepare contractual and fee reimbursement schedules for professional services.
Part 4 – Applying principles of a competitive business strategy.

In this module, the following activities are covered:
* Collection of data relevant to construction claims and evaluation of submissions
* Communication of financial consequences of acceptable claims to all stakeholders
* Incorporation of financial consequences of claims into the Final Account
* Preparation and settlement of the final account and implementation of proper close-out procedures

Part 3 – Development of project information management systems.
Part 4 – Preparation of project close out systems.
