The basis for this assignment is the Simulated Office Project (SOP) assignment of the Strategic Planning Certification Module. Whereas it was permitted to form groups in that assignment, this assignment is to be undertaken by each individual candidate as an independent submission.
Specific Outcome 1: In the previous SOP assignment, it was expected of candidates that they would determine a specific "real life" site upon which the project could be appropriately sited / an anticipated schedule for project development and construction, including an identified tender documentation preparation period; contractor's tender compilation and consultant reporting slot, as well as the consequential appropriate construction period. Candidates are to begin this assignment by providing these details.
Specific Outcome 2: Recommend the choice of price determination method, associated method of measurement, and input document requirements.
Assessment Criteria:

Alternative methods of price determination (eg types of BOQ) and associated methods of measurement are to be explained. This should be based on systems described in the literature but practical considerations / applications should be described. At least 2 potential processes should be compared for this particular project.

Development of schedules for other consultants to adhere to in terms of expected quality and timing of input documents – to meet your anticipated programme requirements
Specific Outcome 3: Develop production management plans for the preparation of your recommended price determination documentation process, including resources and other requirements.
Assessment Criteria:

Trade or other document breakdown structure determined

Appropriate resource levels of your team to be quantified and allocated

Detailed programme for delivery of price determination documentation compiled
Specific Outcome 4: Initiate Built Environment project award process and advise on the selection of bidders for Built Environment projects.
Assessment Criteria:

Criteria for assessment and award of project to a contractor to be determined in accordance with likely Client brief

Invitation to participate in bidding processes communicated to selected list of tenderers by a standard letter

Identification and explanation of the criteria to be adopted in evaluation of bidder’s proposals, credentials, capacity and track record

Potential preferred bidders (actual "real life" contractors) listed (no more than 6) and compliance validated

Recommendation report conveyed to Client and relevant stakeholders
In undertaking this assignment, it is strongly suggested that you consult an experienced quantity surveyor for guidance. The extent of work required necessitates that you start the assignment a.s.a.p and work consistently throughout the module slot.
This assignment contributes 50% towards the total module mark
